Introducing a New Design! from Where Art & Life Meet

Yesterday I launched my latest design, Making Waves: A Drawstring Bag in my Etsy Shop! I also made a short video for it. My instructions are very, very detailed. I include everything from how to begin, to how to stitch this bag together and film all stages of the process. YouTube videos demonstrate every step… Continue reading Introducing a New Design!

What I Did Over the Weekend… from Where Art & Life Meet

I spent at least 16 hours this weekend analyzing and stitching examples of the Trellis Stitch. Specifically the spiral trellis stitch, which was one of dozens of stitches that adorned the Plimoth Jacket, a women’s waistcoat, made in the early 1600’s. Another heavily embroidered jacket is in the costume collection at the Metropolitan Museum here… Continue reading What I Did Over the Weekend…

A New Design, A Stroll & Mischief from Where Art & Life Meet

Let’s kick things off with a new design, shall we?! What? Didn’t she just unveil a new design a couple of weeks ago, you might ask. Yes. Yes, I did. I’ve been very busy! This last one is a companion piece to the Glasses Case. It’s a scissor case! Which, if you’re like me, you… Continue reading A New Design, A Stroll & Mischief

Stitching with Gimp and a lot of Laughter from Where Art & Life Meet

If you’d like to laugh and explore stitching (or in my case attempting to) with silk gimp and the thicker gimp that Painter’s Threads hand dyes, this was the live stream I did yesterday. Warning: We laughed A LOT. My attempts at using the crinkly silk gimp became more comedic than informative… However, I am… Continue reading Stitching with Gimp and a lot of Laughter

Designing and The Joys & Pitfalls of Live Streaming from Where Art & Life Meet

I did another live stream yesterday. We covered the Split Stitch and the Split Back Stitch, which I prefer. I really love live streaming. It’s so much more fun to demonstrate stitches when people are responding, giving suggestions, asking questions, than when I’m just demonstrating a stitch to a silent room. In addition I don’t… Continue reading Designing and The Joys & Pitfalls of Live Streaming

My Mother, British Humor, Thread Kits & More from Where Art & Life Meet

As I grow older I am more and more appreciative of my parents and all they did and, in my mother’s case, still does. So I begin this post with a photo of my parents, above. It’s one of my favorites. I think my mother was a little younger than I am now, when this… Continue reading My Mother, British Humor, Thread Kits & More

Curiosity, Exploring & Options from Where Art & Life Meet

Being curious has its downside, particularly in the middle of the night when I should be sleeping, but instead am listening to the air conditioner kick in while watching the ceiling fan make its rotations. Some random questions that entered my mind at around 3:30am: Where did the saying Curiosity Killed the Cat come from?… Continue reading Curiosity, Exploring & Options

Laughter, YouTube & A Handmade Needle Roll! from Where Art & Life Meet

During these times of uncertainty I find I am rethinking my “I hate the opera” proclamations of the past, having been moved to tears listening to Maurizio Marchini serenading his fellow Florentines from his balcony during the lockdown. I cannot listen to this man without crying. And then there are those crazy goats… what’s going… Continue reading Laughter, YouTube & A Handmade Needle Roll!

Coping and the Pandemic In New York City from Where Art & Life Meet

The Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom here in New York City, and they’ve parked a mobile morgue six blocks from where I live on 7th Avenue. Both are off-white. Life has utterly changed in such a short time, it has left most of us reeling. And yet, we find ways to adapt. It is… Continue reading Coping and the Pandemic In New York City

When Times are Tough… from Where Art & Life Meet

My version above of a meme by @stitchesnquilts that I saw on Instagram the other day and it made me laugh so I wanted to share my tweaked version of it. Because boy do I crave laughter right now. The meme below, another that has been making the rounds, made me smile. And who doesn’t… Continue reading When Times are Tough…

A New Zippered Pouch PDF from Where Art & Life Meet

With all my free time (insert eyeroll and a sigh here), I designed another zippered pouch! This time an abstract design – Playing with Shapes and it’s a little bigger than my Rhino Pouch. This one is 14″ x 12″. It is also fully lined, has a zipper and the wool front is perfect for… Continue reading A New Zippered Pouch PDF
